Mitch Mason Maelstrom Watch Wonderland Exclusive Edition

Watch Wonderland - RAW's sister concept - turns five in 2022. To commemorate this milestone, Watch Wonderland (WW) goes back to its roots, working together with Singapore-based microbrand, Mitch Mason, to come up with a special edition timepiece. Mitch Mason is Singaporean Benedict Ong’s brainchild and was established in 2019 with the mission of creating timeless and enduring timepieces that marry vintage design with contemporary purpose.

WW’s special edition is based on the Mitch Mason Maelstrom. What is a maelstrom? It is an aquatic phenomenon which exhibits the ferocious power of water, formed by opposing currents. Apart from its mighty nature, it is also a sight to behold.

The Maelstrom is a modern interpretation of vintage super compressor dive watches. With an internal rotating dive bezel located under the watch crystal, apart from being permanently protected, it gives the watch a sense of depth and texture while maintaining an impressive 300m water resistance.

The dial of the Maelstrom is designed to be clean and highly legible. It retains Mitch Mason's signature dial profile, with elongated cardinal hour markers and sandwiched 12, 3 and 9 hour numerals. The dial sports a sunburst effect that dances in different lighting conditions. In the WW special edition, the dial sports WW’s trademark green hue and an orange minute track and seconds hand. The elongated cardinal hour markers and sandwiched 12, 3 and 9 hour numerals are coated with Old Radium lume.

The case-back of the Mitch Mason Maelstrom conveys this energy and beauty through an intriguing piece of artwork of a humpback whale making a majestic dive. The beauty and power of this imagery is retained in the design of WW’s special edition in keeping with the venturesome and tenacious spirit exhibited by both brands.
